New PHP Tutorial

July 30, 2009 – 12:12 am
Well, I finally got around to writing another tutorial after all this time. And, guess what? It's my first PHP tutorial. It covers protecting your website from spam attacks, specifically for custom made websites. If you've got a few seconds to spare and are a developer, give it a read. It'll make me happy. <3

Graduation, Track, and Summer

May 26, 2009 – 11:54 pm
Well, somehow, I graduated this past Saturday. That was quite the interesting experience. Before I go further, you need to remember my highschool class was 33 kids.... of which, I've known probably 25 of since 7th grade, and 30 since 3rd, if not more. There's been some who've left, some who've joined, and some who returned after leaving in these last 4 years. All of which has kept life real interesting. I never really thought my graduation would be something emotional or heart wrenching, but I was wrong... at least slightly. While I couldn't let myself shed a tear, I did feel a pang during the "Class Reflections" in which a kid I've known since kindergarten, another from 3rd grade, and the last from 5th, got up in the gym (silly rain forced us inside) and recalled some interesting and exciting  memories from over the years. The sole reason I didn't ...

First of the new year

May 10, 2009 – 1:34 pm
Well, I'm glad I've got a new post to write up, but it's been waaay too long. Quite a bit has happened recently, but I'll try to keep the list short and sweet. To begin things, my senior year is finally winding down. My last day of school is this Friday (the 15th). It's also a half day because of Prom. Track season is winding down with Districts on the 14th. If I have a good day, I may make state in both discus and shotput. It'll be a great experience, but a little hectic... state track takes place over two days (22nd and 23rd). Among those days, I have Honors Day (where they recognize honors for the whole school) on the 22nd and Graduation on the 23rd. In other news, I have officially matriculated to MIT. I had been fairly certain I would for quite a while, but after I visited ...

Merry Christmas! (Late as usual)

December 26, 2008 – 2:56 pm
So, I guess I'm just really bad at the whole "updating your blog" thing. I've probably got tons of things I can write about, and a few of which might be interesting even. It's not that I don't have time, I'm just lazy and forgetful... and distracted by video games. It's mostly that last one I'm betting. Anyways, only one small update from my life to mention: I got in early to MIT. I found out about nearly two weeks ago and just now got around to blogging about it... figures, doesn't it? But yeah, I was really excited to say the least. Definitely did not do much sleeping that week, despite the fact we had finals. Oh well, who cares about sleep anyway? And to finish up... merry Christmas to those who celebrate it! And happy holidays to those who don't! Let's hope for a fun and interesting New Year celebration ...

Time to use this blog…

November 30, 2008 – 12:51 pm
I fail quite often at using my blog it seems. I never really get around to writing stuff again after I previously wrote something... I just forget. And when I do remember, I just don't feel like writing anything. We'll see if I can change this again in the future, but I get the feeling that won't be the case. Anyways, today's entry is about a new feature we just released at SZ. It's called "Achievements." It's similar to the system that Steam, XBox Live, and PSN all use... except it's for a forum system instead of games. It's a bit of a twist, but we figured it'd be fun and could prove to be interesting. It also accompanies the points system quite well by giving members alternate methods of earning points. In essence, the system is just another way to let our members have fun. It gives them something to set ...

Tutorials now online

January 18, 2008 – 11:46 pm
Well, I'm bored, and when I'm bored, I do things. Today, I put all my (useful) tutorials in some pages on my blog. I figured I'd also take advantage of the fun syntax highlighter I dug up. It seems to be working well and I can't complain. Hopefully someone will actually use these tutorials. =P It'd make the work worth it. So yeah, that's all for now. I hope to transfer my snippets library from the old blog to here sometime soon.

Snow Can Be Such a Pain

December 19, 2007 – 7:08 pm
So, usually I love the snow, but recently it's become quite a pain. It snowed last Friday night (takes me forever to blog). I was out at 180th street celebrating my sister's birthday at a restaurant called Sushi Japan since she really likes sushi. Pretty nice little restaurant that kept true to traditions and, well, had a few strange things going on. Such as the pot leaf (a picture) in the bottom of my friend's bowl. Anyways, on my way home, it was snowing. I passed 3 cars that had ran off the road and got stuck in ditches. 3 cars in ditches in a stretch of 60 blocks (about 5 miles) is rather insane for such a light snow too. Though, the roads were rather slick. The first one was half-way out of the ditch and was done by the time I could have stopped, otherwise I'd have stopped, but the ...

Finally Got an Update

December 9, 2007 – 2:08 am
So... what has it been, six months since my last update? Close to it anyway. I figured it's about time I put this blog to use again. I went ahead and updated Wordpress to 2.3.1 from 2.2.2, which means I was really out of date... Once the update was done, I picked a new template, grabbed my favorite plugins, and fixed up the template to get a good looking theme with the plugins I wanted. Always fun. So, what's been going on these past 6 months? School, school, school, and football. That pretty much sums it up. Between getting up for school at 6:30 in the morning, then not getting home until 7 to 7:30 afterwards, I was completely beat this year. Not to mention I had maxed out the amount of classes I'm taking. That never helps. But it all paid off. I earned second team all-district defense recognition and ...

Aptana IDE

July 5, 2007 – 3:59 pm
I was reading an entry in Peter's Blog about developing with Adobe AIR. (It is actually linked to yet another blog.) Anyways, on this other blog entry I was reading and the author mentioned an IDE program called Aptana IDE. I decided I should probably try other IDEs than my handy Notepad++, so I downloaded the program and installed it. Currently, I think the IDE is actually quite nice and I plan to use it for development of client-side scripts for a while. If I don't like it, I can always go back to Notepad++. My only complaint about Aptana is that it doesn't have large support for PHP past syntax highlighting. Oh well, not much that you can do about that. It is still quite a nice IDE.
